It takes about an hour to complete the form first time through.  Details on how to register are found in the packet or the flyer can be picked up in Miss Lundborg's office. Make sure you check the test center code closely.   It ill cost additional money ($20) to change test centers.  Send your application prior to the deadline to ensure placement at your preferred site. If you have missed the deadline you are able to register late, but will be assessed a fine.

The five South Dakota State universities are now using the subtest scores on the ACT test for placement in math and English classes for all students.  An English sub-score of 18 and a Math sub-score of 20 or above is necessary to be placed in a regular college level courses.  Any score below these numbers will require the student to take a remedial course before moving forward in their studies.  A student may request to take a placement test called a "Compass" at the school to challenge this placement.

ASVAB

All Juniors will take the ASVAB on September 6th, 2012 at 8:30.  If there are seniors who would like to re-take or take the test, they will need to let Miss Lundborg know.

The ASVAB Career Exploration Program is intended for 10th, 11th, and 12th grades, as well as students in postsecondary schools.  Taking the ASVAB can help you regardless of your future plans after high school.
The ASVAB Career Exploration Program provides you with career exploration scores which can help you determine your readiness for further education and training in different career areas.  Knowing your academic strengths and weaknesses now gives you time to work to improve them before you start a job, begin a college or technical school, or enter the military.
The ASVAB will test over the following eight areas:  General Science, Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, Mathematics Knowledge, Electronics Information, Auto and Shop Information, and Mechanical Comprehension

PSAT

Juniors will have the option to take the PSAT on October 17th, 2012.  The cost of the test will be $15.00

PSAT/NMSQT stands for Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. It's a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT Reasoning Test™. It also gives you a chance to enter National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) scholarship programs.
The PSAT/NMSQT measures: critical reading skills, math problem-solving skills and writing skills.

PLAN

Sophomores will take the PLAN.   The cost of the test is $10.00

ALL sophomores will be taking this test - if you would like to see your results you will need to pay the $10

The PLAN program helps 10th graders build a solid foundation for future academic and career success and provides information needed to address school districts' high-priority issues. It is a comprehensive guidance resource that helps students measure their current academic development, explore career/training options, and make plans for the remaining years of high school and post-graduation years.
As a "pre-ACT" test, PLAN is a powerful predictor of success on the ACT. At the same time, many schools recognize the importance of PLAN testing for all students, as it focuses attention on both career preparation and improving academic achievement.

Dakota Step

The Dakota Step tests will be given throughout the weeks of April 1st - April 19th, 2013

Dakota STEP (State Test of Educational Progress) is the new assessment system for accountability in South Dakota schools. STEP has as its basic platform the new Stanford 10 Abbreviated test.  The Stanford 10 Abbreviated test was augmented to fully assess South Dakota Content Standards in Reading and Mathematics as required by No Child Left Behind. Science augmentation will be added before 2007 per NCLB timelines.

Dakota STEP will be given at Grades 3-8 and 11. The augmented Stanford 10 Abbreviated will be un-timed and will yield both norm-referenced and standards-based scores.  Subjects that will be assessed by the abbreviated form of the Stanford 10 Abbreviated (norm-referenced) will include Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies and Language Arts. Standards that will be assessed by the add-on augmentation are the SD Content Standards in Reading and Mathematics for each grade (2003) plus eventually the SD Content Standards in Science for each grade (by 2007).
